One of the best feelings is bringing home a brand new sheepskin rug to make a bedroom or living room feel cozy and luxurious. The look and feel of the sheepskin itself is priceless; however, if it gets dirty, it just won’t be as appealing.
Some sheepskin owners might feel afraid of damaging it by cleaning it incorrectly, so they just let it sit there and collect dust, making its value go down. Washing it all the time isn’t a must, but getting rid of excess dust would help in keeping it looking at its very best. Once a week or more, depending on how much dust it collects, brush through the fur with a metal wire brush, removing any dirt or dust. In the event of a stain, purchase a sheepskin friendly cleaner, such as UGG boot cleaner, and mix it with water, lightly spraying it on the stain. Once the stain is covered in the cleaning solution, brush it through once more with the wire metal brush.
The next step may seem too extreme for the beloved sheep or lambskin, but everything will be fine as long as the correct steps are taken. Put the rug into the washing machine, and wash it in a cool gentle cycle. Once it is done washing, fluff it by hand along with the metal brush, and leave it on a hanger to dry naturally. Putting it in the dryer will shrink it by a good amount.
One will find that if the sheepskin rug is kept clean and soft, everyone will enjoy it more, and it will last much longer. A lot of care goes into making a rug of such great quality, and even better care needs to go into keeping it good as new. Keep in mind that if good care is put into the rug, it can last many years and stay every bit as beautiful as when it was first purchased.
